About Meryl
Artist Statement
I am moved by the effects of light, color and atmosphere, and strive to translate these into paint. The highest compliments I have received are about the feeling one of my paintings gives someone – such as a feeling of calm. Elevating someone’s mood or evoking an emotional response seems a worthy pursuit.
Bio
After a long career as a designer of digital media, I began to paint – initially in watercolor and then more recently in oil. In large part, this was the result of my change of habitat – from New York City to Columbia County, NY. I quickly fell in love with the lush landscapes, wildlife, and small-town and rural architecture – all subjects that just beg to be painted.
I have studied painting at The Art Students League of New York, Winslow Art Center, and Woodstock School of Art.
My paintings have been exhibited throughout the Northeast at various group and juried shows and society exhibitions. I also enjoy exhibiting my work online and on social media, as there is such immediate feedback.
I am an active member of the Curatorial Committee at the Spencertown Academy Arts Center (Spencertown, NY), organizing a range of shows for regional artists. I also participate in the activities and exhibitions of the Guild of Berkshire Artists (West Stockbridge, MA). I feel fortunate to be part of the vibrant arts community found in this intersection of the Hudson Valley and the Berkshires.
